On an English-threaded traditional cup-and-cone bottom bracket like the IRD Tenacity QB-40, you adjust the bearings by tightening or loosening the adjustable bearing cup (opposite the crank side) by sticking the pins on this took in them and turning clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise too loosen. Once the adjustment is fine—the spindle turns smoothly and without any play—you hold the adjustment in place with the same tool, while you tighten the lockring, to lock in the adjustment. We have a lockring tool, too.
